Prof. Virender Bhardwaj is a distinguished academician and the esteemed Principal of Shivaji College, University of Delhi. His visionary leadership has played a pivotal role in propelling the institution to new heights, fostering a dynamic learning environment, and upholding the core values that define the college spirit. 

Being a scholar in Hindi literature, he holds a Ph.D. from the University of Delhi and has dedicated his career to the advancement of education and research. His journey at Shivaji College began in 1995 as a lecturer, and through his dedication and expertise, he steadily progressed—becoming a Senior Lecturer in 1999, a Reader in 2004, an Associate Professor in 2007, and ultimately achieving the rank of Professor in 2019. His academic influence extends beyond India, as he also served as a Professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in South Korea during 2008- 09, further enriching his global perspective on education.

An accomplished researcher and writer, Prof. Bhardwaj has significantly contributed to the field of Hindi literature. He has authored 12 research articles published in national and international journals, written five books as a single author, and co-authored or edited nine books aligned with Delhi University’s UG/PG syllabi. His scholarly work reflects his deep engagement with language, literature, and pedagogy, making him a respected figure in academia.

Since assuming the role of Principal, Prof. Bhardwaj has spearheaded remarkable advancements at Shivaji College. Under his leadership, the college improved its National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking from 71 to 49 in 2024, underscoring his commitment to academic excellence. He has also played a key role in expanding the college’s infrastructure, overseeing the addition of the Jijabai Academic Block, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Beyond academics, his commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility earned him an excellence award from the Indian Pollution Control Association in August 2024 for implementing effective solid waste management practices on campus. Through his leadership, Shivaji College continues to grow as a center of academic excellence, innovation, and holistic development.
